Buildings account for over one-third of global energy consumption and nearly 40% of annual CO₂ emissions worldwide—Danfoss has a solution to change that. The Danfoss Sustainable House serves as a living lab for developing and testing innovative technologies aimed at increasing residential comfort while reducing energy consumption.

Torben Christensen, Chief Sustainability Officer at Danfoss, emphasized:"Through the Sustainable House, we demonstrate the real-world application of Danfoss technologies and how we can decarbonize multi-family and general housing globally. If we can show a clear path to net-zero emissions this way, the impact will be significant."The house also serves as a residence for more than ten Danfoss employees on international assignments, making it arguably the most livable home in the world.

The Danfoss Sustainable House features both centralized and decentralized heating systems for comparative testing. Surrounding the building are ten geothermal boreholes, each 100 meters deep, used for groundwater-based heating and cooling during winter. The building also supports floor cooling and diffuse ventilation cooling. With a large technical shaft allowing for future upgrades, it is a smart home—simulated, monitored, and designed to avoid overheating or overcooling.

Funded by the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation, established by the founders of Danfoss, this sustainable building doubles as both a residence and a platform for testing and developing Danfoss residential solutions.

The construction was led by Daugaard Pedersen, whose CEO, Jan Riis Nielsen, stated:“Danfoss’s Sustainable House stands apart from traditional residential buildings. It’s a unique project that integrates sustainability, architectural style, and technological innovation. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, with many important decisions made. We firmly believe the Danfoss Sustainable House sets a new benchmark for modern living, perfectly combining innovation with design.”
